Federal Mandated Testing for 2019-2020 Cancelled

The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) received notification that its expedited waiver request to the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) was approved on March 20.
HIDOE’s expedited waiver allows for the cancellation of federally required assessments for the remainder of school year 2019-20. This includes Smarter Balanced Assessments in English Language Arts/Literacy and mathematics; Hawaii State Science Assessments and Biology 1 end of course exams; Hawaii State Alternate Assessments; and the Kaiapuni Assessment of Educational Outcomes (KĀʻEO).

School Breakfast & Lunches Available

Kahuku High and Intermediate School will provide prepared breakfasts and lunches for anyone 18 years old and under during the school closure period. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday starting Monday, March 23.

The meals will be distributed using a “Grab-and-Go” system located in the front of the KHIS Administration Building and behind the KHIS Cafeteria. Per federal guidelines, children are allowed one meal each and must be present to get a meal. Please plan for your child to eat off campus.

Aloha La'ie Elementary Ohana,
School closure begins tomorrow, Thursday, March 19th.
Students will return to school on Tuesday, April 7th, 2020.

HIDOE Extends Spring Break

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Education is extending its spring break through March 27 for all public and charter schools. All faculty and staff are to report to work on Monday, March 23 as planned.  

Normal school operations for all schools are expected to resume Monday, March 30.
